Industrial Gases

The different gases are used in a wide variety of industries, but most notably in the metal, polymer and food industries. Uses of the individual gases are discussed below.

Industrial Gases

Acetylene

Acetylene is mainly used in oxy-acetylene flames for cutting mild steel and for welding.

Hydrogen

Industrial Gases

The majority of the hydrogen is sold to the edible fats and oils industry where it is used to hydrogenate vegetable oils to make margarine. A small quantity of hydrogen is used in Bulb & Lamp Industries / Gas Mixtures / balloons.

Carbon Dioxide

Industrial Gases

Carbon dioxide is used widely in the food industry for applications such as removing the caffeine from coffee beans to make decafinated coffee and for carbonating beer, soft drinks etc. It is also used for cooling in the food and manufacturing industries.

Nitrogen

Industrial Gases

Nitrogen has two main uses: cooling and as an inert atmosphere. As liquid nitrogen it is used for cooling in many industrial processes and in the food industry As gaseous nitrogen it is used to form an inert blanket over substances that would otherwise be oxidized by the air. Nitrogen is used for cooling various mechanical equipment that needs to be kept extremely cold and for snap-freezing foods such as chicken, hamburger patties and fruit to be eaten out of season. Inert blankets of nitrogen are used over reactive liquids in tankers, in varnish manufacture and also inside potato chip packets.

Oxygen

Industrial Gases

The majority of the oxygen produced is used in the Steel Industry to oxidize unwanted impurities in the steel. Other applications are in the food industry, Medical oxygen for respiration and in oxy-acetylene torches.

Argon

Industrial Gases

Argon is highly unreactive and so, like nitrogen, can be used as a protective blanket to prevent substances from oxidizing. Argon is mainly used to protect very hot metal, as this is highly reactive. Most of it is used in welding to protect the molten metal, and a small amount is used in light bulbs to prevent the white-hot tungsten filament from oxidizing.

Dry Ice

Industrial Gases

We offer solid carbon dioxide (CO2) dry ice in concentrations higher than 99%

  • Healthcare
  • Food & Beverage

Solid carbon dioxide, UltraIceTM dry ice, is used to enable long-distance transportation of bio specimens, and for cryopreservation and blood platelet storage without the use of mechanical freezers.

Premium dry ice can be used to help food processors increase productivity in every phase of food processing and cost-effectively bring their products to market

Frozen, chilled, crisp, fresh, fizzy — it’s all possible with gases and application expertise. We work with a wide range of customers to increase their productivity and improve yield, all while enhancing food product quality and maintaining our focus on food safety.

Helium

Healthcare

Helium is a highly specialized product. It’s chemically inert and non-flammable, with high thermal conductivity, low molecular weight and size, and the lowest boiling point known.

We deliver gas and liquid helium (He) in a variety of purities up to 99.999%.

Krypton

Healthcare

We offer compressed krypton (Kr) gas in a variety of purities. We also supply a broad range of binary and multi-component mixtures with component ranges from ppm and ppb up to 50% based on your specifications. Krypton mixtures in combination with other noble gases, halogen gases, and flammable and toxic compounds

Neon

Healthcare

We offer compressed neon gas and liquid neon (Ne) in a variety of purities and concentrations. Neon mixtures in combination with other noble gases, halogen gases and flammable and toxic compounds

Xenon

Healthcare

21 xenon lights illuminate Niagara Falls in a rainbow of colors. Each light produces more than 390 million peak beams and has the brilliance of 250 million candles.

At less than 100 ppb, xenon is one of the most rare natural gas components in our atmosphere. Compressed xenon (Xe) gas in a variety of purities and produce ppm and ppb mixtures based on your unique specifications.
